Ascent: Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Introduction
Top 7 Systems ("we", "our", "us") built Ascent, an Algebra 1 game for students aged 13 and up. We designed Ascent to be private by default. This Privacy Policy explains how Ascent handles information, and the short version is simple: Ascent does not collect your personal information, show ads, or track anyone.
Data Not Collected
Ascent does not collect any data from you. It collects no personal information and no usage or device data, on our servers or anywhere else. This matches the "Data Not Collected" privacy label shown on the app's App Store product page. Ascent has no user accounts and no analytics, and it sends nothing about you to us or to any third party.
Information We Do Not Collect
Ascent does not collect, store on our servers, or transmit any of the following:
- Names, email addresses, or contact details
- Birth dates, photos, audio, or location
- Device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or IP-based profiles
- Usage analytics, behavioral data, or tracking information
- Any personal information from teens or adults
We have no user accounts and no server that receives your data, because the app does not send it anywhere.
Data That Stays on the Device
Everything Ascent creates stays on your device. This includes:
- Climber profiles: if more than one person uses the app, each climber has their own profile (a name) and their own expedition. Profiles are not accounts; they are simply separate save slots on your device.
- Learning progress: which skills each climber has practiced and mastered, altitude, camps reached, streaks, expedition patches, the Expedition Log, and Weather Window results.
- Placement results: the optional placement check at the start (the flight in) runs entirely on the device and is used only to choose a starting camp.
- Settings and preferences: sound options and the on or off state of optional features.
This information is stored locally on the device and is used only to run the app and adapt the learning experience.
iCloud Sync
If you choose to use it, Ascent can sync progress between your own iPhone and iPad using Apple's iCloud (CloudKit private database). This data lives in your personal iCloud account, controlled by your Apple ID. We cannot see it, access it, or retrieve it. iCloud is operated by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. If you prefer not to sync, you can turn off iCloud for Ascent in your device settings, and the app works fully offline.
Purchases
Ascent is free to start, and a single one-time purchase (the Full Expedition) unlocks the whole mountain. The purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never receive your payment details. Ownership is read from Apple's own transaction records on your device, so we run no purchase server and keep no purchase database. The unlock supports Family Sharing and Ask to Buy, and there is no subscription.
No Ads and No Tracking
Ascent contains no advertising and no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking software. We do not build profiles of users, and we do not sell or share data, because we do not collect it in the first place.
Sharing You Control
Reaching the summit earns a summit certificate, rendered on your device. It is shared only when you choose to share it, using the standard iOS share sheet, and it goes only where you send it. Nothing is posted or transmitted automatically.
Apple Services We Use
- Apple iCloud (CloudKit): optional sync of progress across your own devices, stored in your private iCloud account.
- Apple App Store (StoreKit): processing of the optional Full Expedition purchase and restores.
We do not use any non-Apple analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Young People's Privacy
Ascent is designed for students roughly 13 and up, and many of its users are minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, minors included. There is no behavioral advertising, no third-party data sharing, and no social features that expose a learner to other users. If you believe any personal information has somehow reached us, contact us and we will delete it.
Data Deletion
Because data is stored on your device (and, if enabled, in your own iCloud), you are in control of it:
- Deleting Ascent from the device removes the app's local data.
- To remove synced data, you can also delete Ascent's data from iCloud in your device settings under your Apple ID.
- The Full Expedition purchase is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on a new device from inside the app.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
