Localwave for Android — Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 29, 2026
Introduction
Top 7 Systems ("we", "our", "us") built Localwave for Android as a free application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the app. We are committed to protecting your privacy in compliance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Information We Do Not Collect
Localwave is designed with privacy as a priority. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Your name, email address, or contact details
- Your location or coordinates
- Your listening history or habits
- Your device identifiers, advertising ID, or IP address
- Usage analytics or tracking data
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The app contains no ads and does not use an advertising ID. There is no account to create and no sign-in.
Data That Stays on Your Device
All data you create in Localwave stays on your device:
- Favourite stations — Stored locally in an on-device database (Android Room).
- Settings and preferences — Such as your sleep-timer choice, stored locally on-device (Android DataStore).
This data may be included in your device backups if you have Google backup enabled. We never upload, transmit, or store any of it — we operate no user-data servers.
Location Data
The Nearby tab can sort stations by distance. To do this it asks for approximate (coarse) location, used only while the app is open in the foreground. Your location is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to any server. Granting location is optional — you can decline and still use every other part of the app, including browsing the map manually.
Station Data
The catalogue of Australian radio stations (names, frequencies, stream URLs, and approximate broadcast coordinates) is bundled inside the app and loaded from local storage on your device. We do not download it from a server, and it contains no personal information. Station data is sourced from radio-browser.info and the ACMA Licensed Broadcasting Transmitter Data (CC BY 2.5 AU).
Network Connections and Third-Party Services
Localwave connects to the internet only to do the things you ask of it:
- Radio station streams — When you play a station, your device connects directly to that station's audio stream server. The station operator's own privacy policy may apply to that connection.
- Station logos — Station artwork is loaded over the internet from the stations' own image URLs.
- Google Maps Platform — The map is powered by the Google Maps SDK for Android, which requests map tiles from Google. This is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Play — Used for distribution and updates of the app.
Permissions
Localwave requests only what it needs to play radio:
- Internet and network state — to stream stations and load the map and logos.
- Foreground media-playback service and notifications — to keep audio playing and show playback controls.
- Wake lock — to keep audio running when the screen is off.
- Approximate location — optional, used only for the Nearby tab as described above.
Localwave does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, precise location, or files.
Children's Privacy
Localwave does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The app does not require account creation or personal data entry.
Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by:
- Removing individual favourites from within the app
- Clearing the app's storage via Android Settings > Apps > Localwave > Storage > Clear storage
- Uninstalling Localwave, which removes all app data
Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to access and correct any personal information we hold. Since we do not collect personal information, there is no data to access or correct.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
